Setting up a sandbox or master and copy content into it

Setting up a Sandbox or Master can be helpful as you begin to familiarize yourself with Ultra Course view (and experiment with how you would like to design your course). Copying content from previous courses is easy and can be done one item at a time giving you an opportunity to visualize how your course will look in Ultra.

Key points in the video

Are you looking for something specific? You can search the video transcript by clicking on '…' on the bottom right of the video viewer!

  • Setting up a Sandbox: Can be useful areas to try building your course and exploring the tools. A sandbox is non-course specific play area.

  • Master: A course master is specific to a course and content is never deleted

  • Copying content:

    • It is recommended that you do a granular copy, which means copying over only the content you wish to have in your new course rather than doing a full course transition.

    • Start in your destination course and copy FROM your other course (could be a previous semester OR the same course).

    • Easily copy quizzes to new course; easily copy multiple items.

    • You can also use batch edit to delete multiple items from your course from one place.

How to convert your course and copy content into it

Courses at Douglas College are currently ‘instructor choice’, which means when you look at your courses for Summer 2023 or Fall 2023, they will appear in Original Course View. You can convert your course to Ultra (by clicking a few buttons) and then you can begin copying information from your previous courses OR building your course from scratch.

Key points in the video

Are you looking for something specific? You can search the video transcript by clicking on '…' on the bottom right of the video viewer!

  • Convert your course by first locking it and then clicking on the orange pencil that appears.

  • After the conversion, you will delete the three folders that appear (Start here, Course content, & Copyright folders), giving you a clean start for your course.

  • When you are sure you would like to use Ultra Course View, you will click ‘use Ultra course view’ to finish conversion. If you do not finish the conversion, your course will not be viewable to students when the semester opens.

  • Copy content from previous courses

**You will have to convert every semester until Fall 2024 - however, the process to copy content will become easier as you fine tune your course setup!
