General information on adding third-party tools

Douglas College has several third-party tools available to instructors and students. Please note that the Learning Designers and the LMS team have limited capacity to support the use of these tools. Should you require assistance, review the resources on DC Connect for third-party tools, including contact information for vendor support with specific tools, tutorials, and FAQ pages.

Many of the tools are linked to their own dedicated pages. For example, the Padlet page has links to publisher resources and videos, and contact options for support.

It also includes a list of tools that are not integrated into Blackboard (e.g., see Turnitin).

Douglas College is a Microsoft customer. As such, employees and students have access to O365 tools. The Learning Designer team does not provide support for these tools. Please refer to the Microsoft 365 FAQ page on the college website.

You may wish to add certain tools within your Blackboard Ultra course (for example, Zoom, Kaltura, and TopHat). Just follow these instructions:

  1. Click Books & Tools (the link is called “View course & institution tools”) in the Details & Actions menu on the left.

Click Books and Tools

Books & Tools

2. Doing so will open a panel on the right side called “Books & Course Tools.” If you want to add the tool to your course so you and your students can access it, click the (plus). A link to that tool will then be added at the bottom of your Course Content page. Feel free to move it wherever you like on the page. Remember to make it visible for your students.

In addition, you can click on a tool to launch it without adding it to your course. (For example, click Kaltura My Media LTI to access your media without adding the tool to your course.)
