Base Navigation
When logging into Blackboard, you will see a Base Navigation with options on the left. Important global links including Activity Stream, Institution Page, Profile, Courses, Organizations, Calendar, Messages and Grades are located on the left-hand menu when your first log into Blackboard.
Activity Stream: This is the landing page after logging into Blackboard. Activity Stream provides up-to-the-minute global and course announcements.
Institution Page: Find academic resources including links to: New and Essential information, Faculty Resources, Quick Links, IT Services, Library Resources, The Learning Centre and more.
Personal Profile: This is where you can update your Blackboard notifications.
Courses: You can filter courses by term, status, or by key word.
Organizations: Organizations are courses that are not generated by Banner. Some departments use Organizations to share information outside of a specific course.
Calendar: All events you create within a specific course roll up into the global calendar. Access your global calendar from the list where your name appears.
Messages: Use messages within the course or from the global Messages page.
Grades: In the global menu, you have access to all your grading tasks from the global Grades page.
Tools: From the Tools link, you’ll find links to various resources such as Blackboard Faculty Resources and Student Resources, and Student Course Feedback.
Navigating your Courses page
In the top drop down menus, you can find current courses, courses from other semesters, and other courses such as organizations. You can also use the search bar to find courses with specific key words and adjust how many courses appear per page.
If you access a course frequently, you can select the star icon to add it to your favourites so it appears at the top of your course list. You can select the star icon again to remove a course from your favourites.
